Mayme M. Guthrie

October 13, 1922 - July 28, 2017

Mayme M. Guthrie of Cadillac passed away Friday July 28, 2017 at Samaritas Senior Living in Cadillac. She was 94. Mayme was born in Cadillac on Friday the 13th of October in 1922 to Finnish immigrants John Ramo & Lempi Maria (Pulkinnen) Williams.
Mayme was a lifelong resident of Cadillac and graduated from Cadillac High School in 1941. She married Winford Patrick Guthrie on April 25, 1942 and they were married for 20 years. Mrs. Guthrie retired from Gene Deming Auto Sales as a bookkeeper. After her retirement she went to work at Wal-Mart and was there for 18 and half years before retiring in 2008 at the age of 85.
She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City where she grew up and most recently was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac. Mayme was active in the Cadillac community and had served as an officer of the Scandinavian Society and the Wexford County Historical Society. In the 1990’s she was named Homemaker of the year and had also won a gold ribbon at the State Fair. Her love for writing was seen both locally and far away as a published author and her talents as a musician and composer will be enjoyed for years to come through the CD’s she has made.
Survivors include her 3 children: Thomas Guthrie of Cadillac, Linda Kroes of Cadillac and Wendy (Greg) Moore of Boynton Beach, Florida; 7 grandchildren: Jim (Teresa) Kroes, Kristin (Mike) Holley, Aimee (Chad) Rayborn, Heidi (Brent) Schubring, Melodi (Chris) Koenig, Shawna Whetzel and Randie (Ken) Whetzel; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Wells Williams of Okemos, Michigan and a sister, Bertha Rosted (who is 100) of Cadillac; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 4 brothers: John, Rudy, Otto, and Arthur Williams and a sister, Elsie Crawford and a son-in-law, Douglas Kroes.
Memorial services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Peterson Funeral & Cremation Services in Cadillac with Reverend Scott Torkko officiating. Her final resting place will be Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 AM until service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wexford County Historical Society.
