Mary Juanita Smith

Mary Juanita “Nita” Smith of Cadillac died Friday afternoon, October 6, 2017 at her home. She was 96. She was born on September 12, 1921 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dorothy & Charles Miley.
She married John B. Smith in June of 1943 in Seattle, Washington. He preceded her in death in October of 1998. “Nita” spent 20 years as a Navy wife and after her husband retired from the service she was employed as a Title 1 Tutor and the Executive Secretary for the Red Cross in Mitchell, South Dakota.
While living in Cadillac Mrs. Smith attended First Baptist Church with her family. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska and had been in charge of the Food Pantry there. She also was a volunteer in various ways and was active in many community agencies. “Nita” was a member of the Eastern Star and the Kensington Club. Among her many hobbies was her love to cook and to sew Barbie doll clothing for her family.
Survivors include her only son, Dennis (Jean) Smith of Cadillac; 3 grandchildren: Michael (Kimberly) Smith of Cadillac, Sandra (David) Ferguson of Flagstaff, Arizona and Mark (Jennifer) Smith of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and 3 great grandchildren. In Addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister and 3 brothers: Evelyn, Archie, Harold, and Floyd Miley.
Friends may meet the family from 5-7 PM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Peterson Funeral & Cremation Services in Cadillac. Mrs. Smith’s final resting place will be Beaver Crossing Cemetery in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska.
