Norman E. Husted

Norman E. Husted of Cadillac passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home. He was 79.

Norm was born on September 4, 1938 in Kalkaska, Michigan to Elmer N. & Bernadean A. (Sundberg) Husted and they preceded him in death. On February 28, 1959 at First Baptist Church in Cadillac, Norm married the former Judith A. Barnum and she also preceded him in death on April 7, 2015.

After graduating from Cadillac High School in 1956, Norm went on to serve in the United States Army in Korea and in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he served on the Mountain Rescue Team. After returning from his service to our country, he earned his Associates Degree in Accounting from Northwestern Michigan College. Norm was employed at Medical Arts before working at Kysor Industries for over ten years. He retired from CMI after 20 years of employment there.

Mr. Husted was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cadillac. He served as church moderator, usher, greeter, and counter for collections. Norm was also a choir member, involved with Kids Hope and the retirees group. He enjoyed golfing and volunteered in the community. Norm volunteered his time at the hospital, was a member of the Elks Lodge #680 of Cadillac, Jaycees and was a founding member and coach of Cadillac All Sports Association for many years.

Survivors include his children: Craig (Teresa) Husted of Bluffton, South Carolina , Corey (Rebecca) Husted of Saugatuck, Michigan and Jennifer (Scott) Davis of Brighton, Michigan; grandchildren: Emily Husted, Ellen (James) Starke, Caleb Husted, Erica Husted, Kyle Davis and Casey Davis; siblings: Jeanette (Paul) Deller of Trenton, Michigan, Roger (Barb) Husted, Char (Jim) Walker all of Cadillac and Pam (Frank) Price of Reed City; brothers in law: David (Mary Ann) Barnum of Cadillac, Michael Barnum of Granger, Indiana, Gerald Barnum of Grand Rapids and Doug Schwartz of Cadillac; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Judy, he was preceded in death by a sister, Valerie Schwartz, and a sister-in-law, Mary Barnum.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Cadillac with Reverends Chad Zaucha and Mike Stambaugh officiating. Friends may meet the family Friday from 4-7 PM at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
