John J. Grice

John J. Grice of Cadillac passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Curry House Assisted Living. He was 85.

John was born May 5, 1932 in Cadillac, Michigan to Charles and Emily (McGarr) Grice and they preceded him in passing. In 1975 in Baldwin, Michigan he married the former Illean R. Stone and she preceded him in passing on December 19, 1998.

Mr. Grice graduated from Cadillac High School and later was a grocery store manager for Giant Supermarkets in Alma, Mount Pleasant, Cadillac and Alpena for 40 years before retiring. After retirement Mr. Grice continued his hard work ethic and worked at BP Station and the Meauwataka Store.

In high school John was a pitcher for his baseball team and was an avid skier. He was fond of jigsaw puzzles, playing pool, antique cars and boats and car shows. John loved to take road trips and travel with his wife, Illean. He loved vinyl records and listened to country music and the steel guitar.

He is survived by his children Steve (Gayle) Grice of Traverse City, Stephanie (Dominic) Frankina of Cadillac, Susan (David) Badalamente of Manistee, Sally Fisher (Bob Ross) of Wellston; stepchildren, Greg (Sally) Scholten and Barb (Jack) Baughan of Cadillac; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Joan Wilkins and Mary (Jerry) Keith of Grosse Pointe Woods

In addition to his parents and wife Mr. Grice was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Merle Nolf and Jared Baughan; a brother, Richard (Leona) Grice and a brother-in-law, Bud Wilkins.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac with Chaplain James Martin officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mount View Cemetery in McBain.
