Paul D. Spoelma

February 10, 1950 - March 31, 2018

Paul D. Spoelma of McBain went to be his Lord Saturday afternoon, March 31, 2018 at his home. He was 68. Paul was born on February 10, 1950 in Cadillac to Roger C. & Betty J. (Kortman) Spoelma and they preceded him in death.
Paul graduated from Northern Michigan Christian High School and attended Davenport College. He had served in the Army National Guard of Michigan. Paul retired from Biewer Lumber in 2012. He was a lifelong member of Lucas Christian Reformed Church and had served on Council. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing and singing in the AMEN Chorus.
On May 17, 1975 at Prosper Christian Reformed Church in Falmouth he married the former Kathryn DeRuiter and she survives him along with their children: Timothy (Serena) Spoelma of Missoula, Montana and Kelly (Joshua) McDonough of Traverse City; 4 grandchildren: Caleb & Luke Spoelma and Aaron & Mae McDonough; Paul’s brothers and sisters: Bryan (Carol) Spoelma of Loveland, Colorado, Rosemary (Mark) Jenema of Falmouth and Lynnette (Jeff) Beerens of McBain; In-laws: Joyce DeRuiter of Marcellus, Michigan, Karen (Harold) Cnossen of Falmouth, Darrell (Marilyn) DeRuiter of White Cloud, and Karla (Paul) DeYoung of Traverse City and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother & father –in-law, John & Helena DeRuiter and a brother-in-law, Al DeRuiter.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lucas Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Todd Kuperus officiating. Friends may meet the family from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the church. Paul’s final resting place will be Mount View Cemetery in McBain.
