Karen Annette Silvers

October 09, 1937 - April 29, 2018

Karen Annette Silvers, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 29, 2018, surrounded by her children and husband.

Born October 9, 1937, she lived in several Michigan communities throughout her youth and graduated from Tustin High School. In 1955, she married her teenage sweetheart Kaye Dean Silvers and settled in his hometown of Cadillac.

A devout Christian, Karen was a long-time member of the First Church of God, now NorthernLight Church of Cadillac. In living out her faith, she served as a Sunday School teacher and song leader for several years. She also lived out her faith through her card ministry, where she reached out to those in need of affirmations of faith, loving kindness, and healing. She also fellowshipped with her Lord through her daily devotions and scripture readings.

In keeping with her giving nature, Karen enjoyed knitting hats, mittens, and slippers for her family and others, baking, canning, making jam, writing letters and poems, and taking pictures of her family and nature. Reflecting her warm soul, she enjoyed taking walks outside to marvel at God’s creation, especially daisies. She delighted in spending time with her family, sharing in their joys, and celebrating their accomplishments in school, work, sports, and outdoor pursuits.

To help support her family, Karen worked at several places in Cadillac and the surrounding area, including the school system, the Chamber of Commerce, Four Star and various factories. As a teenager, she worked as a nanny and a candy striper.

Karen is survived by her husband, Kaye, of nearly 63 years; her two sons Danny (Maureen) and Mark (Wendy) Silvers; her daughter Lori (Paul) Corner; her seven grand children Erin, Sarah, Chelsea, and Daniel Silvers, Kelley and Katey Silvers, and Meg Corner; and her two great-grandchildren Jade and Rodeo McCartney. She is also survived by her sister Sharon Moomey and her three brothers Leonard (Mary), Terry (Gladys), and Ron (Lucy) Nelson, as well as several nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanet and Sven Nelson, her older sister Wanda (Frank) Mayes, and her two younger brothers, Don (Jamie) and John (Barb).

Karen will most be remembered for her steadfast faith in God and her constant care, compassion, and kindness. Her beautiful hazel eyes, generous smile, and kind heart will be missed by those whose lives she deeply touched. Her passion for the Christian walk defined her life and touched all those she knew.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, May 7, 2018 at NorthernLight Church of Cadillac with Pastor John Mellish officiating. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 PM at the Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.

Memorial contributions may be made to Giddens International. An online guestbook is available at www.petersonfh.com.
