Cynthia Lathrop Barr

Cynthia Lathrop Barr of Mesick passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. She was 70.

Cynthia was born November 3, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Eric and Madeline (Whiting) Lathrop and they preceded her in passing.

She attended college pursuing an art major before marrying Paul James Barr. The couple was married on August 26, 1967 in Southfield, Michigan at Calvary Lutheran Church. Cynthia lived in Milford for 25 years. While there she was involved with the historical society, parks and recreation and was a scout leader for many years. She co-authored a book, “Ten Minutes Ahead of the Rest of the World: A History of Milford, Michigan.”

Cynthia and her husband moved to Mesick in 2001 after building their home together. She loved entertaining and hosting large family gatherings. Cynthia was very creative; she was a talented artist and had an incredible attention for detail. She had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed the trees that surrounded her and gardening. Cynthia was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Wexford Genealogy Organization.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Jeffrey Alan Barr of Southgate, MI and James Oliver (Christine) Barr of Highland, MI; grandsons: Jason Alan Barr, Zackery James Barr, and Luke Andrew Barr; siblings, Kevin Charles (Mary) Lathrop of California and Laurie Ann (Terry) Sorensen of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Her final resting place will be Willow Grove Cemetery in Armada.

Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice Cadillac Chapter.
