N. Duane (Jake) Jacobs

N. Duane (Jake) Jacobs of Cadillac, formerly of Lansing, Michigan died August 8, 2018. He was 98.

Duane was born April 11, 1920 in Lansing, the son of Vaughn and Eula (Swix) Jacobs. He graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing in 1938. Duane married the former Ila Zimmerman on June 21, 1941.

Duane served his country in both the Army and Navy during World War II. He founded Courtesy Cabs in 1947 and continued to work in the taxicab industry until he retired in 1987.

He was a life member of the Dimondale Masonic Lodge #449, Order of the Eastern Star #363, VFW, BPO Elks and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lansing, Michigan.

He was an avid golfer and bowler and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Ila; a son, Garry Jacobs of Lake City; two granddaughters, Camie (Mark) Goetsch of Grand Haven and Julie (Lee) Muste of Warren, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Bradley and Ryan Goetsch; two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Vedah McAllister of Lansing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Allen and brothers, V.E. Jacobs and Keith Jacobs.

According to his wishes Mr. Jacobs donated his body to medical research and education.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
