Thomas Lee Proffitt

August 23, 1942 - September 11, 2018

Thomas Lee Proffitt of Cadillac passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Samaritas Senior Living surrounded by his family. He was 76.

Tom was born August 23, 1942 in Cadillac, Michigan to Clifford Thomas and Agnes Irene (Burke) Proffitt and they preceded him in passing. On February 10, 1968 he married the former Peggy Hazen and she preceded him in death on July 28, 1997.

He graduated from Cadillac High School in 1960 and attended Ferris State University. Tom served in the United States Army and retired from General Motors after over 30 years of service. Over the years Tom restored countless gas pumps and Model A’s. Tom was a sports fan and enjoyed deer hunting, bowling and jeeping.

On May 8, 1999 he married the former Sharon Hearld and she survives him along with his children: Anita Proffitt of Davison, Clifford (Panayota) Proffitt of Cadillac, Thomas (Jessica) Proffitt of Chelsea; grandchildren: Ashlee, Owen, Hannah, Selah, Connor, Delaney, Megan and Blake; Blake’s mother, Britney Grames; step-children, Scott (Peggy) Barnum of Grand Rapids, Tonya (Scott) Jesweak of Cadillac; a sister, Patricia Dodge of Cadillac and a brother-in-law, Ronald Hazen of Houghton Lake.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Peggy he was preceded in death by a step-son, Jason Barnum.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Cadillac Community Church (315 East Pine Street) with Pastor Mike Tuch, Sr. officiating with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place 10:00 AM, Monday, September 17, 2018 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
