January 15, 1945 - April 29, 2019
Jack Edward Speelman of Cadillac died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was 74.
Jack was born on January 15, 1945 in Woodbury, New Jersey to Frank and Alice Speelman who preceded him in death. Jack was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Speelman.
Jack grew up in East Detroit, Michigan and served in the United States Air Force for four years before beginning an almost 50 year career in the trucking industry. Jack spent 25 of those years with T.J.'s Trucking in Cadillac from where he retired.
Jack loved sports and music. He played hockey and baseball, bowled, fished and watched old Western and war movies. He will be remembered as an avid fan of the Red Wings and UConn women's basketball. Jack's family was the most important thing in the world to him and he was fiercely proud of his wife, children and grandchildren. His son's recent retirement from the United States Air Force and return to Cadillac brought great peace to Jack and he was overjoyed that all of his children were finally home. Jack's kindness and humor made people smile everywhere he went.
On May 17, 1991 Jack married his soulmate and devoted wife of almost 28 years, Peg Petersen. Jack and Peg blended their families into one and spent the next three decades together proudly watching them grow and prosper. Peg survives him along with children: Wendy (John) Divozzo, Becky (Eric Gustafson) Speelman, Beth (Josh) Gottschall, Desiree (Michael) Lumbert and Jack Edward (Julie) Speelman II; 9 grandchildren, Brandon, Jarred, Abby, Jakob, Rachel, Megan, Allie, Elijah and Noah; and a sister, Beverly (Danny) Miller of Townsend, Michigan.
In accordance with Jack's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Medical Center. An online guestbook is available at www.petersonfh.com.

"My heart sunk last night when I read Jack's obituary. I came to know Jack through his picking up Peg from Northern Lakes CMH where we both were employed. Jack always had a friendly greeting and warm smile (especially when he saw Peg!). The world lost one of its good men this week. My prayers to the Speelman family."
