Sherman L. Holmes

Sherman L. Holmes of Tustin died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 near Evart. He was 55. He was born April 6, 1955 in Cadillac to Doyle Leroy and Betty Irene (Small) Holmes. Sherman graduated from Pine River High School and had worked at Pine River Schools a total of 35 years and retired in May of 2010. After retiring he went back to logging and worked for K & K Forest Products. He had been on the Tustin Area Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Tustin. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, ice fishing and being outdoors.

Survivors include his daughters: Nicole (Jeremy) Boone of Findlay, Ohio and Danielle (Tim) Dole of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren: Lauryn, Kynndal and Gabriela Boone and Jackson Dole; sisters: Bonnie (Don) Lewis of Tustin, Penny (Keith) Daniels of Woodbury, TN and Darlene (Kevin) Lynn of Montgomery, AL and half-sisters, Jill Hadju, Meagan Holmes and Molly Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Leslie Boone in 2003 and a brother, Poncho Holmes in 1996.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Paul Tomlinson officiating. Visitation will be today (Friday) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Burdell Township Cemetery in Osceola County. Memorial contributions can be made to Pine River Area Public Schools or Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor, MI.
