Eugenia "Jeanne" Carlson

Eugenia "JeanneÃ¢â‚¬Â Carlson, 100, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018, surrounded by her family. A Cadillac resident the last 41 years, Jeanne was a ballerina, the mother of five, twice a widow, the proprietor of Jeanne's Red Shed (a collectibles shop on 45 Mile Road), active with the Cadillac Library, an occasional book reviewer in the Cadillac News, a contributor to local charities like Eagle Village, a regular bridge player for many years at the Cadillac Senior Center, and to those she leaves behind, a loving and fascinating mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born Eugenia Holmes in 1918, the only child of Gladys Holmes, Jeanne graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1935, teaching and performing dance from the age of 14. Jeanne made a home for Gladys most of her mother's long life. Jeanne married Lloyd "GailÃ¢â‚¬Â Shannon shortly before World War II. He served as a Marine in the South Pacific. Her surviving children are Brian Shannon of Southfield, married to Celia Savonen, and Maureen Caldwell of Troy, married to J. Christopher Caldwell. Her children Linda, Barry, and Daniel predeceased her. Her grandchildren are Molly Gail Shannon, Kelly Shannon and David Gibson Caldwell, and Joseph Edward Shannon. Joseph is married to Leah Flagg-Wilson. Her one great-grandchild is Logan Shannon. Gail died suddenly at 42 in 1958, leaving Jeanne with five young children. In 1968, Jeanne married Edward Carlson, who had three adult daughters of his own, Jayne Carlson, Sandra Steuck, and Deborah Hofsaess. Jeanne and Ed bought three rental cottages on Mitchell Lake, spending more and more time in the area until they "retiredÃ¢â‚¬Â to Cadillac in 1977. Retirement did not suit either of them. For Jeanne, this meant opening Jeanne's Red Shed, the source of many friendships. Ed died suddenly at 71 in 1986. As her many friends and family know, Jeanne never let the loss of two dear husbands and three children sour her on life. She loved life and continued to develop new interests. In her 90s she shared many views with millennials born in the 90s. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at 617 Lakeshore Drive on Friday, March 30 between 3:00 and 7:00 PM.
