Alice Louise (Nelson) Stafford- Egelus

Alice Louise (Nelson) Stafford- Egelus of Cadillac passed way Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Green Acres Retirement Living Cadillac. She was 97. Alice was born September 11, 1920 in Hobart to John E. and Helga S. (Anderson) Nelson and they preceded her in passing. She graduated from Cadillac High School in 1938. She earned her County Normal course study in 1939. Alice furthered her teaching career at Central Michigan University receiving her teaching degree in 1966. Prior to her teaching degree she worked at Montgomery Ward and Michigan Bell Telephone in Cadillac. More commonly known as the \"book mobile lady,\" she traveled to various counties delivering books to those interested. She was a traveling library from 1948 through 1954. She taught at County Normal, Enterprise School, Hoxeyville and Cadillac Junior High before retiring in 1980. Even after retiring she continued to mentor students in math. She was a lifelong and active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and belonged to the women's group; making quilts for those in need. Alice was also a member of the Scandinavian Society. Alice so loved to work in her gardens, bird watch, snowmobile and to take her grandchildren fishing. Her travels found her visiting relatives in Sweden and also traveling to: London, France, Iceland, Denmark, Australia, Ireland, Germany and several areas of the United States. She is survived by her son, Daniel (Sherry) Stafford of Cadillac; grandson, Kurt (Anne) Stafford (Gracie and Mac) of Bloomfield Hills; granddaughters, Karey Scholten (Kylee, Abbey, Megan and Claire) of Charlevoix and Amy Stafford (Morgan, Chloe) of Cadillac; sisters-in-law: Mildred Nelson, Elsie Nelson and Joanne Nelson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in passing by her grandson, Ryan Stafford; sisters, Alma (Everett) Smith and Jenny (Ernie) Symanski and brothers: Eric, Carl and Norman Nelson. She will be remembered for her love of God, her family and those in need. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 18, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac with Reverend Scott Torkko officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Her final resting place will be Hobart Lutheran Cemetery in Wexford County.
