Carole Ann Akers

On Christmas Eve, the brightest star joined the skies. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carole Ann Akers passed peacefully on December 24, 2025, surrounded by love. Carole was born on March 21, 1934, in an old farmhouse on the very road where, years later, she and her husband Don would build their family home—a place filled with love, laughter, and generations of memories. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Don Akers; her beloved daughter Jeannine Robertson (Randy Robertson); her brother Marshall Neuman (Sue Neuman) her cherished grandchildren Tyeler Helsel (Krista Helsel), Laci Dingwall (Cam Dingwall), Larah Robertson-Hernandez (Benny Hernandez), Jordan Robertson (Hailey Robertson), Nicholas Gucinski; and her adored great-grandchildren Chloe, Easton, Claire, Everleigh, Brooks, and Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dora and Gustaf Neuman, and her beloved son Spencer Akers, who passed while honorably serving his country. Carole graduated high school in 1954 and immediately entered nursing training at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. She worked for several years in a psychiatric hospital in Traverse City, where her compassion and dedication to caring for others were evident early in her life. Carole and Don were married on October 2, 1960, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they built their family home in Tustin, where they welcomed their daughter Jeannine on October 24, 1964, and later adopted their son Spencer in 1971. Their home was one of constant warmth and open doors. Through her love and guidance, Carole helped raise nine young children and more than 80 adolescents, offering stability, care, and unwavering support to all who entered her life. A steady and hardworking farm hand, Carole was no stranger to long days and honest labor. Her gardens were always plentiful, and her hands were rarely still. She loved to create—sewing, crocheting, and crafting with care and intention. Carole’s faith was the foundation of her life. A longtime member of Living Light Christian Church, which she helped establish, she remained devoted to her church community. She taught classes, guided couples, and consistently found light and truth through scripture. Even at the age of 89, Carole continued serving others, volunteering to fill food boxes for Feeding America whenever she was able. A self-renowned chef, Carole was happiest when cooking for others. There was always a seat at her table and a plate filled with food, love, and laughter. Carole was also a master of card games and a joyful winner. She spoke her mind honestly and kindly, leaving no doubt where you stood with her. Forgiveness was a gift she freely gave and faithfully taught. Carole Ann Akers lived a life of service, faith, hard work, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy woven through generations, carried forward in the lives she nurtured, the faith she shared, and the countless hearts she touched. It brings us comfort to know she was met at the gates of heaven by the Lord, with Spencer there to greet her. Reunited in peace, she now watches over us as our guardian angel, forever loved. A service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Light Christian Church, 7700 W. Blue Road, Lake City, MI.
