Edward Joseph Carlson

Edward Joseph Carlson, 91, of Cadillac, Michigan passed away peacefully September 26, 2023. Ed was born on June 27, 1932 in Cadillac and was the son of David Oscar and Josephine Beatrice (Barry) Carlson. He married Eileen Ann Connors at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL on December 14, 1963. He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and helped build St. Hugo of the Hill Catholic Church, Bloomfield Hills, MI, The Prudential Building, Boston, MA, The Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, Louisville, KY to name a few. Locally, he helped build The Cadillac Rotary Pavilion, St. Ann Catholic Church and School, and in his later years designed many beautiful brick and stone fireplaces for several Cadillac homes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Ann Catholic Church, Cadillac. He attended Berry School, a one-roomed schoolhouse still standing on 44 1/2 Rd., Cadillac, in his younger years, St. Ann School his middle years, and graduated from Cadillac High School. He was a very active person and had an interest in vintage tractors. He loved his family, and they loved him dearly. He will be missed. He is survived by his son Edward J. Carlson Jr. of Cadillac; Dr. Maureen A. Bierhals (Dr. Andrew J. Bierhals MD) of Town and Country, Missouri; special grandchildren Elizabeth and Sebastian Bierhals of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers G. Thomas (Georgeanne) Carlson of Howard City and Hugh Carlson of Cadillac; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, William Carlson; two sisters Marianne Carlson and Frances Fuller; sisters-in-law Audrey Carlson, Suzanne Carlson and Dorothy Connors; brothers-in-law Dorian (Dewey) Fuller and Robert V. Connors. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Cadillac, MI with Fr. Michael Janowski as celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Cadillac. There will be no visitation. The Rosary will be prayed one hour before Mass begins. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Church/School.
