Erma Ruth Johnson

Erma Ruth Johnson of Canadian Lakes, formerly of Harrietta, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at her home. She was 89. Erma was born September 13, 1928 in Carroll Township, Ohio to Fred and Martha J. (Behnke) Hansen. She graduated from Port Clinton High School and moved to Michigan to work. There she met and married Louis Carl Seagert in 1946 and moved to Erie, Michigan. She married Wm. Howard Johnson on November 20, 1977 and he preceded her in passing on December 22, 2011. Erma was baptized in the Lutheran church and was a faithful Christian all of her life. She became a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta, Michigan when she moved to Canadian Lakes in 2009 with her daughter, Kathleen. Erma worked many jobs throughout her life and when she retired and moved to Harrietta she worked many volunteer jobs in the village. She was Village Treasurer for many years and was also one of the founding member of the Rescue Squad in Harrietta. She became an EMT, later obtaining her license to teach EMT classes. She worked as an EMT until she was 70 years old. She also participated in the Women's Club and Red Hats Club until she moved. She loved the outdoors and did a lot of fishing with her dad as a child. She continued that sport all her life, fishing many years in Michigan and Canada. She also learned the sport of deer hunting and always seems to get a deer or two each year for the freezer. She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Reau of Canadian Lakes and Karen Sneed of Walbridge, Ohio; grandchildren: Richard (Lia) Reau, Jr, Kristie (Chris) Budd, Renee (John) Ziemkiewicz and Michaelena Griffey; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Whitney, Keegan, Ronan and Lauren; great-great grandchildren, Zane and Zoey. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Seagert; two sons-in-law, Richard Reau, Sr. and Walter Sneed; sister, Frieda (Omer) Howell, nephew, Jack Howell. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday July 17, 2018 at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. Friends may meet the family Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Boon Westside Cemetery in Boon.
