Ernest F. Monter

Ernest F. Monter of Cadillac passed away March 25, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital. He was 94. \n\nErnie was born October 17, 1922 in Cadillac, Michigan to Frank Oscar and Mary (Chapman) Monter and they preceded him in passing. On April 20, 1945 in Florida he married Lucille B. Welton and she preceded him in passing on March 15, 1995.\n\nHe graduated from Cadillac High School and then began to work for his brother-in-law at Quality Cleaners. Ernie then served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the service he worked for Wellington Cleaners and went on to own and operate the business from the early 1970's until it closed in 2007. \n\nErnie enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and driving hot rods and sports cars. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and used to enjoy building ice boats. Ernie loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a former member of the Cadillac Elks, AmVets Post 110 of Cadillac and American Legion Post 94 of Cadillac. Ernie was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cadillac. \n\nHe is survived by his children Cindy Monter of Cadillac, Greg (Colleen Johnson) Monter of Cadillac; three grandchildren: Angela Johnson, Mark Decator, Jamie Monter and one step- granddaughter Shirley Hoskins; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.\n\nIn addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a grandson, Harley Davidson Monter in 2006 and four sisters: Dorothy F. Monter, Anna May Witherspoon, Mable Tice and Alice Marie Ã¢â‚¬Â MargieÃ¢â‚¬Â Johnson- Nesline.\n\nMemorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at First Covenant Church in Cadillac with Pastor Mike Tuch, Sr. officiating and full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. His final resting place will be Cherry Grove Township Cemetery in Wexford County. \n\nIn lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.
