Francis Arvid Dahlquist

Francis Arvid Dahlquist of Lake City, Michigan passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at his home. He was 90. Arvid was born February 16, 1927 in Cadillac to Arvid H. and Helen (Laubenthaul) Dahlquist and they preceded him in passing. He married the former Geraldine E. Daniels on November 23, 1946 in Cadillac and she preceded him on November 13, 2004. Arvid graduated from Cadillac High School in 1945. At the age of 17 he served in the United States Navy during World War II. He had worked for Consumers Power for 43 years and retired in October of 1989. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church of Cadillac as well as the Cadillac Elks Lodge #680, American Legion of Lake City Post # 0300 and the Moose Lodge of Cadillac #531. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, fishing and hunting, especially waterfowl. He spent many years as a cook for the Elks after retirement and enjoyed doing that and trying new recipes at home. Mr. Dahlquist could play the harmonica and took it on many camping trips when his children were younger. He played the harmonica up until a week before his passing. He is survived by his children, Gary (Jan) Dahlquist of Cadillac, Cindy (Jon) Wiggins of Cadillac; grandchildren: Heidi (Shane) Foster, Brent Dahlquist, Wendy (Josh) Wagner, Corey (Heather) Wiggins, Kerri (Shay) Roby, Travis (Tarra) Wiggins; great-grandchildren: Kaya and Owen Dahlquist, Cooper and Tessa Wagner, Jonathan, Christopher and Elizabeth Wiggins, Jared Roby, Henry Wiggins; a brother, Ronald (Anne) Dahlquist of Cadillac and a sister-in-law, Doris (Eldon) Braley of Gaylord. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mandy Wiggins; grandson, Brandon Wiggins; siblings, Keith (Vera) Dahlquist and Elizabeth "BettyÃ¢â‚¬Â (John) Sudgen. The family would like to thank his caregivers: Yvonne, Mia, Amanda, Carol, Sandy, Craig, Regina, Naomi and grandchildren, Travis and Tarra for their wonderful care. It was because of their care that Mr. Dahlquist was able to remain living at home. The Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac with Msgr. Francis J. Murphy as celebrant. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM. Burial will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard.
