Fred M. Sodergren

Fred M. Sodergren, 61, of Cadillac passed away suddenly on Monday September 9, 2024 at his home. Fred Melfred Sodergren, Jr. was born January 12, 1963 in Sanford, Florida, the son of Fred and Nancy (Murphy) Sodergren. He spent much of his younger years in Florida and Maine before his Dad’s Navy career ended and they moved back to Cadillac. He was a graduate of Cadillac High School. He married Debra Butler and together they had two children; they divorced. He married the love of his life Christine Ghent on July 27, 1988 and together they had one son. Fred worked at Rexair in Cadillac for many years, had a skill with cabinetry and worked building and installing cabinets at Kitchen’s by Jody and most recently worked at Four Winns building cabinets for their luxury boat line. He was a hard working man who cared for his home, was always fixing something for someone else and was skilled in most household trades. Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, had plans to retire and move to Florida with the love of his life for their next great adventure, and was the kind of guy that always showed up to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed having a good time around a fire, camping on his family's annual Christmas in the summer camp trip and spending time with his wife at their Florida house. He was a good husband, son, father, brother and friend. He was quite talented at baseball when he was a younger man and continued playing softball for many years. He enjoyed bowling on men’s and couple’s leagues and was an avid Detroit Lions Fan. He loved to deer hunt with his sons and later he and his wife really enjoyed time spent in the woods together. He leaves behind his doting wife Chris Sodergren of Cadillac; four children: Michael (Danielle) Sodergren of Ankeny, Iowa, Tonya Mongar of Cadillac, Jami (Craig) Tack of Fulton, Illinois and Ryan (Alex) Sodergren of Cadillac; 9 grandchildren: Caleb, Ethan, Jake, Kenneth, Baylee, Cara, Brandon, Owen and River; siblings: Frank (Pam) Sodergren of Bowdoin, Maine and Peg (Dan) Shuler of Cadillac and his two puppy babies Bella and Buddy. Fred was preceded in death by his father, his mother (just this May) and one sister: Cheryl King. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Friday, September 13, 2024 at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM until services.
