Gary William Clough Sr.

Gary William Clough, Sr., of Boon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on January 18, 2025, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Gary was born October 28, 1940, at Hurley Hospital in Flint to Clare H. Clough & Velta M. (Knerr) Clough. Gary graduated from Mesick High School, and briefly attended Ferris State University, then called Ferris Institute, before returning home to help with the family farm. Gary married Mary E. Rossell on January 21, 1967, in Cadillac. Gary worked 13 years at Cadillac Malleable Iron, followed by 2 to 3 years at St. Johns Furniture Factory. Gary worked 25 years with Four Winns and retired in 2008. During these years, Gary continued the beef cattle farm in his spare time with his family. Gary was a very stoic gentleman who rarely complained about anything. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoyed hunting & fishing; he was very proud to pass those traits along to his children. Gary looked forward to hunting with his three sons every year, along with his fellow hunting buddies, Harvey, Gayle, & Clyde (too many to list). Gary would often be up at 3 or 4 am for opening day of firearm deer season, helping complete chores, gathering his gear, making coffee, or figuring out breakfast & sandwiches. Gary had a fondness for snowmobiles and motorcycles, sharing both activities with his children when they were younger. Gary liked to watch football, basketball, baseball, & Friday Night SmackDown on TV. When Gary was younger, he enjoyed bowling with his brother-in-law, Bill Junites. The most important things to Gary were his family & home. Gary loved family gatherings and time spent with his closest loved ones. Gary always made sure to attend his children’s athletic games throughout the years, no matter how far it was to travel. Gary was very content with his farm life, from his tractor collection to the harvesting of crops every year, and time spent with the livestock. Gary will always be remembered for his many stories, sense of humor, & dedication to his family. Gary is survived by his loving family: his wife, Mary; his children, Gary Clough, Jr., Lisa (Greg) Neuman, Ricky Clough (Jill), Brent (Katie) Clough, and Bridget (Chris) Wilson. Gary had a special place in his heart for his six grandchildren: Brandon (Jena), Tyler, & Nicholas Neuman, and Sophia, Lydia, & Colton Clough. Gary is survived by his siblings: Ronald Clough, Douglas (Charlotte) Clough, Kathy McNitt, Kae (Paul) Ryno, Vicki (Mike) Anderson, and brother-in-law, Donald Ryno. Also surviving are several brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Clare & Velta; his brothers, Carl Clough & Rodney Smith, his sister, Linda Ryno, his stepfather, Fred Smith, as well as his father & mother-in-law, Raymond & Ernestine Rossell. Per Gary’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time and burial will take place in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or The Michael J.
