George A. Labbe

George Labbe of Cadillac peacefully passed away Saturday morning, February 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 77. George was born on September 22, 1938 in Cadillac to Harold W. & Ruth A. (Schmuck) Labbe and they preceded him in death. George graduated from Cadillac High School in 1956 and had lived in the Cadillac area all his life. George served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. He was employed at Pete's Radiator Shop, TV 9 & 10 as a cameraman and later as a Firefighter for the City of Cadillac for 25 years retiring as Captain. George was also the owner and operator of Labbe's Small Engine Repair a business that he worked while working his full time job at Cadillac Fire Department. Mr. Labbe was active and proud to be a member of all the following clubs and organizations and always found time to give back to his community through them: AMVETS Post 120 of Mesick, AMVETS Post 110 of Cadillac, American Legion Post 300of Lake City, VFW Post of St. Ignace, Moose Lodge #531 of Cadillac, Lake City Eagles, life member of the Northwest Michigan Engine & Thresher Club, Inc. and was a former member of the Saladin Temple of lake City and the Mesick Masonic Lodge. On May 23, 1959 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac he married the former Patricia A. Tyler and she survives him along with their children Mike (Donna) Labbe of Wellston, Dawn (Jim) Richert of Cadillac; grandchildren: Krystal Labbe (Larry Payne), Scott (Jessica) Labbe, Candace Richert, Jordan Richert, Nichole (Roger) Gibson, Dale (Chelsea) Kniss; two great-grandchildren, Ava Lynn Labbe and Jonathon Michael Labbe; sisters, Joie Labbe of Cadillac and Marie (L. Wayne) Johnson of Maple Grove, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant sisters: Ida Mabel and Kathleen Louise Labbe, a brother, Harold "HarpÃ¢â‚¬Â Labbe on February 9, 1999, a daughter-in-law, Terri L. Labbe on Oct. 22, 1999, a grandson, Christopher M. Labbe on July 14, 2015 and a nephew, Mark A. Labbe on December 9, 2015. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac with Deacon Frank Kopasz officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. His final resting place will be Selma Township Cemetery in Wexford County.
