Harvey Loeks

Harvey Loeks of McBain passed away at his home on Dec. 8, 2012 with his four children by his side. He was 83. He was born to William & Hilda (Sikkema) Loeks in Richland Township on Dec. 20, 1928. He married Hilda VanHouten on Jan. 14, 1953 in Richland Township and she preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1981. He later married Kathryn â€œKayâ€ Meyering on Aug. 7, 1982 at the home of Bob & Barb Hoekwater in Missaukee County and she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2011. He had worked for Peter Schierbeek Construction and then Greenville Construction Company before retiring in 1992 and then he did work on his own. He was a veteran World War II serving in the US Army. He was a member of the Lucas Christian Reformed Church where he had served as elder. He was an avid bowler, golfer for years and loved to play, teach, & watch the game of softball. He loved to attend his children\'s sporting events. He is survived children: Deb Dickenson of Hastings, Tim (Gail) Loeks of McBain, Sandy (Tim) Jenema of McBain, Karen (Bruce) Benthem of McBain; stepchildren: Karen (Paul) Konczal of Fowlerville, Gail (Ken) Stahl of McBain, Faye (Joe) Walker of Presque Isle, Mary Sanderson (Niel Jendron) of Marquette, and Kenneth (Jodi) Meyering of McBain; 28 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers and sisters: Mildred Jenema of Falmouth, Henry Loeks of Grand Rapids, Roger Loeks of Cadillac, & Gary (Rose) Loeks of Iron Mountain; in-laws: Warren (Eleanor) VanHouten of Cadillac, Jay Bode of Grand Rapids, Shirley (Larry) VanAssen of Grand Rapids, Gertrude (Jerry) Bogard of McBain, Ethel (Bud) Sikkema of Grand Rapids, Joyce (Ed) VanHouten of Marion, Barb Hoekwater of Cadilla Harold (Betty) Meyering of McBain, Ed (Edith) Meyering of McBain,& Jim (Jane) Meyering of Grand Rapids. In addition to his two spouses he was preceded in death by granddaughters: Laura Dickenson & Melissa Boven, a brother, Harold Loeks; in-laws: William VanHouten, Bob VanHouten, Lucielle Bode, Marv Jenema, Dr. James Sanderson, John Bob Hoekwater, Albert & Alberdeen Meyering, Neal & Elsie Schaaf, & Pete & Henrietta Stahl. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Lucas Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Steve VanNoort officiating. Burial will be at the Lucas Cemetery with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. Visitation is at the church fellowship hall Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM and one hour prior to services Tuesday.
