Helen Christensen

Helen Christensen of Cadillac passed away Monday morning, November 18, 2013. She was 85. She was born August 12, 1928 in Cadillac, Michigan to Louie and Delcie (Yager) Nelson. Helen attended Cadillac Public Schools. She married Jack W. Christensen in Cadillac on February 18, 1946 and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2011. Helen worked for Mercy Hospital in Cadillac for 40 years, retiring when she was 80. She was very dedicated to her job and all her patients and coworkers. She worked in housekeeping, laundry and ended her career working in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Northern Light Church in Cadillac. She was a social butterfly and caretaker. She enjoyed her daily shopping trips and weekly trips to Brite- N Clean Laundromat. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children: Linda (John) Johnson of Cadillac and William Christensen of Traverse City; grandchildren: Jenny Freese (Linda Baynes), Tracy Lehr (Tim Haysmer), William Christensen II, Sara Christensen (Mark Hughes); great-grandchildren: Katie (Chris) Warnock, Tyler Boolman (Kelly Clobus), Joshua Lehr, Lindsey Lehr, Megan Robertson, Arianna Horning and Jamie Monter; great- great- grandson, Aiden; brothers and sisters: Doyle Nelson, Ray (Donna) Nelson, Danny (Yvonne) Nelson, Albert (Gail) Nelson, Pat (Delbert) Edwards, Mary (Donald) Patnode, Charlie Nelson all of Cadillac and Joanne Brunner of Cincinnati, OH; many nieces and nephews; In laws: Gary (Darlene) Christensen, Patricia Nelson, Mary Nelson and Jeanette Nelson and her beloved cat, Oreo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 6 brothers: Ted, Claude, Abe, Jack, Oscar and Jimmy Nelson; a sister, Delcie; in laws: Fern (Kenneth) Rudolph and a granddaughter, Jill Christensen. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 21, 2013 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Pastor John Mellish officiating. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cherry Grover Township Cemetery in Wexford County. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
