John Roy Tasiemski

On July 17th, our family lost our father and grandfather John Tasiemski at the age 89. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, Dziadek, uncle, brother, and friend. He was born in Bay City to Valeria (Graczyk) and Giles Tasiemski. He had 3 sisters, Roberta Cudney, Rosemary Martek, and Bernadette Rosa. His mother saved all four children by getting them out an upstairs window when their home caught on fire. He was raised by his grandfather Louis Tasiemski and signed himself up to attend St. Hyacinth Grade School. He graduated from Central High in 1953, where he met his future wife, Joan Helminiak. John served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1958-1963. John married Joan in 1959 and they had 2 children, Mary Beth (Randy) Champlin & Mike (Maureen) Tasiemski. They were married for 62 years before Joan passed away in 2021. They lived a happy life together, enjoying friends and family, traveling, and trips to the casino. John worked for Michigan Bell as a cable splicer and later became a supervisor. They moved to Cadillac in 1977. They have six grandchildren: Diandra (Mark) Larkin, Michelle (Matt) Schroeder, Mike Champlin, Haley Taiemski, Jacob Tasiemski, and Jonathan Tasiemski and three great children: Edison Larkin, Ellis Larkin, and Sloane Schroeder. He leaves behind his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Anita Eichhorn and her family, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Ann's Church, The Telephone Pioneers of Michigan, and The Elk's Lodge #680 (Exalted Ruler in 1998). He was a member of the Cadillac Area Artists Association, winning the mayor's choice award. John was above all a family man, an outdoorsman, an avid artist, and dabbled in wine making. He loved daily walks with his dogs and sharing a drink and laugh with friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. In his final months, John suffered from the effects of Pulmonary Fibrosis and was ready to join family members who preceded him in death. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday August 23rd at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church. Those wishing to meet with the family beforehand can do so at 10 a.m. A graveside service will take place immediately following mass at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
