Laura May Cook

Laura May Cook of Cadillac passed away peacefully at her home Friday, May 29, 2015. She was 84. She was born January 16, 1931, to Alfred and Huldah Clark on Old Mission Peninsula in Grand Traverse County. Laura attended Maple Grove and Lone Tree schools. The Clark family moved to Buckley in 1940. She graduated from Buckley High School as Salutatorian in 1949. She attended Central Michigan University and worked in Kingsley as a telephone operator. She married Harold William Cook in 1952, who preceded her in death August 23, 1990. Laura and Harold settled in Cadillac to raise their family. Laura had a caring, giving nature that promoted a positive outlook. Laura was a Teacher's Aide for Cadillac's Headstart Program. Laura managed a small food concession at the family oriented Briar Hill Ski Club. She was a Life Member in the DAV Auxiliary. Laura became a devoted soldier in the Salvation Army and was honored for 18 years of service presiding over Women's Ministries (formerly Home League). Laura loved life, her family, and hosting family dinners. She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, canning, gardening, and attending school sporting/concert events. Laura is survived by her children: Harold (Judith) of Traverse City; Thomas; David (Krista); and Ellen Cook all of Cadillac. Six grandchildren: Harold "BillyÃ¢â‚¬Â (Julian); Journey; Daniel; Laura; Jon (Amity Wright); and Allison Cook. Two great grandchildren: Leeanna and Evelyn Cook. Four siblings: Muriel Stauffer, Mary (Jerry) McPherson, Lillian Clark, and Doris Gibson. Besides her husband and parents, Laura was preceded in death by her sisters Helen McPherson and Elizabeth Bronson. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Major James Porterfield officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Visitation will be Friday, June 5, from 5-7 PM, and Saturday, June 6, from 9-10 PM at the Funeral Home. A luncheon following services will be held at the Salvation Army Church in Cadillac at noon.
