Lula Shirley O'Dell

Lula Shirley O’Dell of Cadillac went to be with her Lord Friday, May 9, 2025 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. She was 102. Shirley was born on August 14, 1922 in Toccoa, Georgia to William Harrison & Lula Sabrina Ann (Shirley) Deaton. On April 18, 1945 she married Joel O’Dell and he preceded her in death in 1976. Shirley was a Southern Belle at heart due to roots from the south. She later moved to the Wyandotte area and was the top seamstress at Regal Bridal Shop in Lincoln Park for 17 years. She loved it there and was a great seamstress. She worked on choir robes, costumes, bridal dresses, gowns and party dresses. Shirley enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, tatting lace, and reading. Her heart was her home and she took care of everyone. Gone with the Wind was her favorite movie. Faith was most important to her and she taught her children to pray and taught Sunday school. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a very special Godly woman, a bright light for all to see. Survivors include her children: Erla Jo O’Dell of North Carolina, Janet (Jack) Johnston of Marion, and Andrea (Ed) Everly of Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Judy O’Dell of Stanwood; grandchildren: Jason (Amy) O’Dell, Ashlee (Mike) Flachs, Rose (Ray) Buss, Garry (Conie) Stewart, Ruth O’Dell, Sarah Parker, Brian Belleville, Joel (Kelsey) Belleville, Olivia (Ben) White and Jackie Lowery; 20 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren; and her sister, Gladys Addison of Georgia. In addition to her husband Shirley was preceded in death by siblings: William, Jr., Manola, Savola, France, Vance, Louis and Margaret; and 2 sons: Randell and Roger O’Dell. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Marion Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM at church. Burial will be at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice House.
