Martha Lee Asplund

Martha Lee (Jared) Asplund went home to the Lord Jesus Christ on September 19, 2024 at the age of 81. Martha lived a life filled with love, service, and deep devotion to Jesus and her family. A proud graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, Martha found her calling as an elementary school teacher in Joliet, Illinois. It was in Joliet that she met the love of her life, Virgil Asplund, at the Joliet Church of the Nazarene. They married and shared a blessed 55 years of marriage, creating a loving home and raising three wonderful daughters. Martha’s passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom. After leaving her role as an elementary teacher to focus on raising her children, she continued to shape young lives as a dedicated Sunday School teacher and beloved “recess mom,” known for her discipline and care. She later returned to the workforce as a preschool teacher, where her nurturing spirit touched countless young minds until her retirement in 1999. She also was a generous contributor to Trevecca Nazarene University’s Scholarship program. Her kind, steadfast spirit lives on through her Husband Virgil Asplund, three cherished daughters Marla (Toby) Vance, Christina (Eric) Winter and Jennifer (Richard) Whitman, 10 beloved grandchildren, Jared, Terresa, Anna, Jenna, Tatyana, Abigale, Kyle, Elijah, Olivia and Jeremiah, as well as one great-grand daughter, Violetta, who will continue to honor her legacy of faith in Jesus and unwavering love. Martha was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Jared; her mother, Emma Lee Jared; her brothers, Billy and Herbert; and her sisters, Jean and Joanne. Martha will be deeply missed by her family and Edgett’s Church family and all those whose lives she touched with her gentle guidance and generous heart. A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at Edgett’s Wesleyan Church in Luther, MI on Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 11am. Visitation at Peterson Funeral & Cremation Services in Cadillac will be on Monday September 23, 2024 from 5-7pm. Burial will be at Burdell Township Cemetery in Tustin.
