Mary Jean Johnson

Mary Jean Johnson passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, surrounded by family at Curry House Assisted Living in Cadillac. She was 88. Mrs. Johnson was born January 13, 1928 in Reed City, Michigan to John and Elsie (Irvine) West and they preceded her in passing. On June 12, 1948 in Gladwin, Michigan she married Max J. Johnson and he preceded her in passing on February 14, 2013. Mrs. Johnson graduated valedictorian from Leroy Agricultural School. She worked as a secretary at Franklin Elementary School for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Tustin. While in Cadillac she taught Adult Sunday School at the First Covenant Church of Cadillac. She was also a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Mrs. Johnson volunteered at Mercy Hospital for over 20 years and Love, INC. of Cadillac for many years. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting. Mrs. Johnson was active and walked regularly and was a great cook and baker. Mrs. Johnson had many special friends and especially appreciated her retired teacher friends who committed to bringing her to and from countless dialysis appointments. She was an avid reader and was proud to be in charge of the Curry House Library. Above all else she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Colleen (Greg) Johnson-Monter of Cadillac and Janet (Mario) Indiviglio of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren: Angela Johnson (Tike Turnblom), Jade (Eric) Damschroeder and Linnea Lucas (Gary Aubut) and six great grandchildren: Kirstie, Rick, Ian Charlotte, Rowan, Lucy; siblings: Dwight (Grace) West, Stephen (Virginia) West, Daniel (Judy) West, Esther Dahlstrom and Marjorie (Clyde) McGee and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded death by a brother, John David West. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Tustin with Reverend Keith Bergstrom officiating. Friends may meet the family prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Burdell Township Cemetery in Tustin. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Love, INC. of Cadillac or Covenant Presbyterian Church in Tustin. Arrangements were made by the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac.
