Peter Stahl

Peter Stahl, age 89 of McBain, went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2011 at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. He was born in Highland Township of Osceola County on August 12, 1921 to Corneal and Nellie (Bouma) Stahl. He married Henrietta R. Hoekwater on Jan. 7, 1944 at the Hoekwater family home in Vogel Center. He had worked for the Falmouth Co-Op and also had worked at Northwood Manufacturing in Cadillac for over 20 years, retiring in 1987. He had also farmed for over 30 years. He served in the military during World War II. He was a member of the McBain Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an elder and deacon. For more than four years, every October, they spent a month working as volunteers at Rolling Forks, Miss. He had volunteered at the Co-operative Ministries for more than 20 years and had served on the board. He drove for F.I.A. and the Red Cross for more than 30 years. He enjoyed doing hard work, camping, farming and making the grandchildren wooden picnic baskets. Surviving are his wife Henrietta Stahl of McBain. Children Bonnie (Harvey) Eisenga, Larry (Suzanne) Stahl, Carole (Paul) Shaarda, and Loren (Diane) Stahl, all of McBain. 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Inlaws Janet Stahl of McBain, Hazel Stahl of Grand Rapids, Barb Hoekwater of Cadillac and Harvey Loeks of McBain. Many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, siblings and inlaws; Martha and George Mys, John Stahl, Ida and Pete VanDyk, Arthur Stahl, Cora and Rich Beerens, Bob Hoekwater, Henry Meyering and Kay Meyering Loeks. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McBain Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Jaclyn Busch officiating. Burial will be at the Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McBain Christian Reformed Church and from 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until time of service. A luncheon will follow the funeral service with commital services at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday after the luncheon. Memorial contributions may be made to: International Teams, 411 W.
