Phyllis Marie Hankerson Clement

Phyllis Marie Hankerson Clement of Cadillac passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was 56. She was born on March 22, 1957 in Los Angeles, California to Edward & Henrietta (Cannon) Hankerson. Phyllis graduated from George Washington High School in Los Angeles and went on to California State University at Northridge and then continued on in the License Vocational Nursing program at San Luis Obispo, California. After obtaining her degree she went to work at a skilled Nursing facility in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Phyllis would then work at the Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, Calif. And then she moved to Michigan where she worked in Whitmore Lake, Reed City and for the past 19 years she has been employed at Lakeview Manor in Cadillac. Moving up North converted Phyllis in to enjoying country music. She enjoyed comedy movies, getting together with friends and social gatherings. She also collected antiques and many other items. Phyllis was a loving person and her work was her number one priority next to her husband and family. Breakfast was her favorite meal and she loved life. At an early age Phyllis knew and accepted the Lord. On July 29, 1994 in Cadillac she married Gary Clement and he survives her along with her mother, Henrietta Hankerson of Cerritos, CA; nine brothers & sisters: Jerry (Gladys) Hankerson of Applevalley, CA, Phillip (Annette) Hankerson of Huntersville, NC, Suda (Albert) Green of Los Angeles, CA, Carol (Bracy) Jones of Grand Prairie, TX, Catherine (Dennis) Webb of Pomona, CA, Theresa (Ronald) Greenwood of Ventura, CA, Cynthia Hankerson of LaPalma, CA, Maceo Henderson of Ventura, CA and Angela Weathers of Marshall, MO; 16 nieces & nephews; 9 grandnieces & nephews; 2 great grandnieces & nephews; brother in law, Gregory D. (Stephanie) Clement of Pueblo, Colorado; cousin in law, Jeane (Don) Springberg of Lake City; uncle, Sam (Sondra) Hankerson of Palm Springs, two aunts, Elzora Cannon and Eva Cannon. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward. Memorial services will be held One O'clock p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Richard Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
