Ruth Lucille Peterson

Ruth Lucille (Benson) Peterson passed away peacefully, July 28, 2026, surrounded by family. Lucille, a lifelong resident of Clam Lake Township, was born May 4, 1926 to Arthur and Anna (Swanson) Benson. She married Joseph Peterson Jr. on November 28, 1952. Together they managed and grew their farm in Wexford County where they raised eight children. They enjoyed 62 years of matrimony. Lucille was Grandmother of 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Living on and managing their family farm for 70 years, Lucille had a full life. After graduating from Cadillac High School, she worked as a bookkeeper at Harris Milling Company. Lucille helped operate the family farm and managed the finances while raising and loving her children. She served the community as an election and census worker and later was elected as Clam Lake Township Clerk. Lucille enjoyed traveling with family both in the US and abroad. She loved crocheting, playing cards, growing flowers, gardening, antiquing, and attending family gatherings - this culminated in May with her 100th birthday celebration. Her home was where all could gather for an abundance of food and laughter. Lucille was known as the keeper of facts, figures, dates and history for the extended family. If you wanted to know when things happened, you asked Aunt Lucille. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Peterson Jr, her parents, siblings Arthur, Leonard, Mildred, and Hartley Benson, Dorothy George, Bernice Wondergem, and Robert Benson. Lucille is survived by her children Michael (Sue) Peterson, Bonnita (Rudy) Winkler, Scott (Linda) Peterson, Cynthia Peterson, Patrick (Gina) Peterson, Sallie (Steve) Broersma, Eric (Jennifer) Peterson, and Donna (Joby) Hertel, all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 3, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Cadillac with Mr. Nate Nelson officiating. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Peterson Funeral and Cremation Services in Cadillac Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Love INC Cadillac.
