Betty Shaarda Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Shaarda of McBain went to be her Lord Thursday morning, November 17, 2011 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was 89. She was born on June 21, 1922 in Richland Township of Missaukee County to Seitse & Sena (Bolt) Ellens and they preceded her in death. On October 10, 1941 at the Ellens family home she married Robert John Shaarda and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1994. Betty had been a member of the McBain Christian Reformed Church and the ladies aide there. She was active in the Farm Bureau and volunteered at Autumnwood of McBain and the Red Cross. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and canning. Survivors include her children: Don (Joyce) Shaarda of McBain, Ed (Norma) Shaarda of Jamestown, Lillian (Doug) Langan of Grand Rapids, Rose (John) VanDyke of Hudsonville, Paul (Carole) Shaarda and Mark (Mary) Shaarda all of McBain; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; her brother, Albertus (Wilma) Ellens of McBain; two sisters: Sena (Evart) Helms and Ann DeYoung all of Jenison; sisters in laws: Carolyn Meyering of Grand Rapids and Helen Bronkema of Kalamazoo. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Ruby Jewel Lamkin, an infant brother, 4 sisters, 6 brothers and many in laws. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the McBain Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Jaclyn Busch officiating. Burial will be at Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Friends may meet the family from 6-9 PM Friday (today) at the Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain.
