Carl W. Asplund

January 4, 1942 - November 4, 2012

Carl W. Asplund of Tustin passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, at his home. He was 70. He was born January 4, 1942, to Arvid and Leona (Tracy) Asplund in Tustin, MI. He graduated from Tustin High School in 1960. He went on to get a Bachelor of Arts with a major in religion and minors in Spanish and music from Owosso College in Owosso, MI. Carl worked for several years at Cadillac Rubber and Plastics in the shipping department. He also lived in the southern and the western United States before returning to Tustin in his final years. He enjoyed traveling to Israel; his fifth and final visit was in May 2012. He usually greeted people with a smile and a scripture verse and was quick to offer up a prayer for anyone who had need. He enjoyed walking, studying scripture, playing musical instruments, hunting, and gardening. He is survived by his children, Eric Asplund of New Mexico and Debrah Tracey of Tucson, AZ; his siblings Grace (Jay) Stargel of Woodbine, MD, Faith (Stephen) Hart of Wauwatosa, WI, Philip Asplund of Traverse City, MI, James (Patricia) Asplund, Virgil (Martha) Asplund, and Linda (Paul) Roose, all of Tustin; grandchildren Frances Ruth Lujan, Charlie Asplund, and Amber Asplund, of New Mexico, Gracelyn Anderson and Emeline Anderson of Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. Burial has taken place at Burdell Township Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Edgetts Weslyan Church, 3446 N. Raymond Road, Luther, MI, on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Arrangements were made by the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac.
