Charlene Flora Ballard Hicks, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died January 21, 2012 at her home in Manton. She was 82. She was born on October 28, 1929 in Baileyville, Maine to Roger and Wilma (Shirley) Ballard. She married Robert C. Hicks on July 3, 1948 in Portland, Maine. He preceded her in death after 61 years of marriage on August 15, 2009. Charlene was a long time resident of Scarborough, Maine, and has lived in Manton since 2003. She was a Worthy Matron with the Cornerstone Lodge of Portland, Maine. She had been employed with Benoit\'s of Portland for several years. She is survived by her sons; Stephen (Esther) Hicks of Mira Loma, CA, Robert (Nancy) Hicks, Jr. of Waterboro, ME and Roger (Doris) Hicks of Hollis, ME, daughters; Susan (Garry) Marcum of Delaware, OH, Charlene (David) Manley of San Bernardino, CA, Valerie (Michael) O\'Neill and Carol Ann Hicks all of Manton, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a brother, John (Susan) Ballard of Statesville, NC and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her, parents, two sisters, Hilda Richardson and Thelma Badgley and two brothers, George and Roger Ballard. Private Memorial Services will take place at a later date. Burial will be at Antioch Township Cemetery, Wexford County, Michigan. Arrangements were made through Peterson Funeral Home, Cadillac.
