Cole Lee Culver

April 15, 1919 - March 15, 2011

Cole Lee Culver of Cadillac died Tuesday March 15, 2011 at his home. He was 92. He was born in Colfax Township of Wexford County on April 15, 1919 to Wm. Franklin & Elva Rebecca (Lee) Culver. Cole graduated from Mesick High School and went to work at BF Goodrich and later enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. He returned from the War and went to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas where he graduated from with a Bachelor\'s in math and science. Mr. Culver had been a teacher and a Baseball and Basketball coach in Rosehill, Kansas and moved to Wichita where he retired from teaching in 1979. Each summer he and his wife would come back to the Manton/Cadillac area to spend their summer vacation and it was during that time the he went on to receive his Master\'s from the University of Michigan. His biggest love was fishing, both fly fishing and on Lake Michigan out of Frankfort. After retirement he moved to Cadillac to build a house and started the Paddleboat Rental by the Marina Restaurant and also owned and operated Aqua Play Marina on M-115. He married the former Mary Aline Hunter on May 25, 1948 in Winfield, Kansas and she survives him along with their children: Craig (Vickie) Culver of Spring Lake, Cal (Sarah) Culver of Rogers, AR, and Colene \"Coco\" (Tom) Kangas of Scottsdale, AZ; 3 grandchildren: Kelsy Kangas, Sadie (Nate) Heckerson, and Logan Culver. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Culver and a sister, Bea Polly. Memorial graveside services will be held in the spring at Soper Cemetery in Colfax Township of Wexford County. Arrangements were made by the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. An online guestbook is available at www.petersonfh.com.
