Donald Wm. Nelson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald Wm. Nelson, 84, of Reed City and Tustin was called to be with his Lord to his new heavenly home on August 23, 2012. Donald was born in Tustin in 1928 to Anders (Bill) and Mabel M. Nelson. He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 5 years, Wilda Shaw, his sons Kent (Rebecca) Nelson and Wayne (Kristine) Nelson, his sister Shelby (Carlton) Plyler, as well as his grandchildren Angela Nelson, Robert Nelson, Coy (Nicole) Nelson, Kaylee Nelson, and many nieces and nephews. Donald\'s sister, Elna Mae Barnes preceded him in death. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Elvera Jamieson, mother of his sons Kent and Wayne to whom he was married for 27 years until her death in 1979. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Mildred Haines, to whom he was married for 27 years. Mildred was mother of Don\'s step-children Linda (Les) Moyer, Bev (Bill) Knudsen, Steve (Willee) Haines, Mike (Cindy) Haines, Bonnie (Joe) Bessert, Ken (Ginette) Haines, and Tom Haines, who will all greatly miss their step-father. Wilda\'s children, Bill (Jean) Shaw, Linda (Dick) Roberts, and Tom (Terrie) Shaw will also miss their dear step-father. Donald\'s many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews were also very much a part of his life. Donald lived most of his life in Tustin. He was a veteran of the Korean war serving in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned home from the service he was employed with Consumers Power for 30 years until he retired in 1976. Donald\'s greatest joy in life was spending time with his large family and many friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, travelling, spending winters in St. George. Utah, playing cards, country music, watching western movies, Tigers baseball games, and socializing over a good cup of coffee or dinner out with friends and family. Donald was a devoted Christian and attended Augustana Lutheran Church in Tustin where he enjoyed the fellowship of many friends and family. In the last few years he also attended Calvary Gospel Baptist Church where he was loved by many friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Tustin, with Pastor Michael Holman officiating. Friends may meet the family from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Burial will take place at Cherry Grove Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Augustana Lutheran Church, Tustin, Michigan or to Calvary Baptist Church in Ashton, Michigan.
