Edith Tjepkema of Cadillac died November 23, 2010 at the Marwood Nursing and Rehab in Port Huron. She was 89. She was born Helen Edith Robertson on February 5, 1921 in Port Huron the eldest child of William John & Nina (Pratt) Robertson. Edith earned degrees from Spring Arbor Junior College, Greenville College and Western Michigan University. She married Andrew J. Tjepkema on June 23, 1951 in Port Huron. They moved from Kalamazoo to Cadillac in 1954 and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1994. Mrs. Tjepkema had taught school in Michigan for 33 years including 25 years in Mesick. She had many of her writings in print including six books. Edith was a member of the Meauwataka Free Methodist Church and will be dearly missed by family and many close friends. Her survivors include her three sisters: Winifred Knowles, Gertrude (Jesse) Rosales all of Port Huron and Ann Baker of Alberta, Canada as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Arnot. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Meauwataka Free Methodist Church (1759 East 24 Rd.). Memorial contributions may be made to the Meauwataka Free Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. An online guestbook is available at www.petersonfh.com.
