Edmund A. Host, Jr. of Cadillac passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 85. He was born on December 8, 1927 in Grand Rapids, to Edmund A. and Elizabeth (McConnell) Host, Sr. Mr. Host graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School and went into the United States Navy and served for 2 years. He returned home from the service and went to Aquinas College, earning his bachelor's degree, and later received his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. He owned and operated the Texaco Gas Station on M115 and M55 for several years before he went into education. He started teaching at Cass School in 1967 and later became an administrator until retirement in 1995. Ed was active with several community boards and volunteered in many ways in the area. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading, swimming, spending time with his children and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church for many years. On July 14, 1951 in Grand Rapids he married the former T. Joan Whitte, and she survives him, along with their children: Anne Johns of Chesapeake, VA, Mary (Dave "BuzzÃ¢â‚¬Â ) Clark of Traverse City, Patricia Hampel of Grand Rapids, Jeannie Peacock of Maple City, MI and Joe Host of Cadillac; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, a grandson, Ryan Johns and a son-in-law, Chad Johns. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 28, 2013 at Saint Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac with Msgr. Francis J. Murphy as celebrant. Visitation will be Today, Thursday from 6-8 PM at Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with a Rosary prayed at 7:30 PM. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac.
