Elna May Holmquist

Elna May Holmquist of Tustin passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Lakeview. She was 98. She was born September 7, 1915 in Tustin to John and Ila (Hoover) Vanderhoof and they preceded her in death. Elna graduated from Tustin High School in 1935. She married Hartley A. Holmquist on April 6, 1935 in Tustin and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1981. She moved to the farm in 1935 and lived there all her life until going to the Lakeview. Mrs. Holmquist was an excellent rug weaver and a talented quilt maker; she could create things out of nothing. She was also well known for her tea pot collection. She had been a cook at the Kettunen Center in Tustin and was a foster mother for many years. She was a member of Edgetts Wesleyan Church as well as the Tustin Area Volunteer Club. She is survived by her son, Garth (Corlene) Holmquist of Cadillac; daughter in law, Harriet Holmquist of Reed City; grandchildren: Chuck (Lori) Holmquist of Reed City, Juli (Jason) Stellini of Reed City and Micah Holmquist of Lansing; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, June Danhoff of Cadillac and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Roy in 2005; a brother, Jack Vanderhoof and sisters, Beulah Powell, Thelma Blanchard and Fern Lake. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21,2013 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Scott Torkko officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Burdell Township Cemetery in Osceola County.
