Eugenia "Jeannie" Marie (Smith) Olson

January 24, 1949 - October 26, 2012

Eugenia \"Jeannie\" Marie (Smith) Olson, 63 of Cadillac, formerly of Ludington, passed away October 26, 2012 with her family and friends at her side. She was born January 24, 1949 in Fremont to Eugene and Selina (Brassphenning) Smith. Eugenia loved to play pool and computer games. She also loved playing with her grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Halloween was one her favorite holidays, because she loved watching how excited children became when receiving candy. She enjoyed cooking for others. On Thanksgiving, Eugenia would cook a big turkey dinner and invite all of the truck drivers over to her house, so she knew that no one was alone for the holidays. Christmas was another one of her favorite holidays, because she loved giving to others. She is survived by her children: Robert (Jamie) Talsma of Michigan City, IN, Michael (Amy Jo) Talsma of Cadillac, Vernon (Janet) Torney of Fife Lake, Irene (Scott) Hills of Traverse City and Rex (Sherry) Torney of Mt. Pleasant; step-children: Sandy (Terry) Braumann of Cadillac, Shelly (Thomas) Payne of Mesick, Sally (DeWayne) Peterson of Leroy, Sharon Torney of Midland, Silva Torney of Cadillac, Melvin Olson and Kurt Olson, both of Ludington and Justin Olson of Florida; 34 grandchildren: 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great- great- grandchildren; her sisters, Violet Woodwyke of Hudsonville and Bonnie (Donald) Howey of Lapeer and ex-husband, Willie Olson of Ludington. She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren; siblings, Johnny and Dennise Smith; friend and ex-husband, Sam Dewitt and the love of her life, Vernon H. Torney. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Dan Klotz officiating.
