Evelyn I. Peterson

Evelyn I. Peterson of Cadillac formerly of Tustin died Tuesday morning, March 15, 2011 at her home. She was 88. She was born in Dighton on February 25, 1923 to Dayton & Lizzie (Smith) Roose and they preceded her in death. On April 20, 1946 she married Carl R. Peterson in Lansing and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2003. Evelyn was a homemaker and had been employed for several years at the Hilltop House, a home for special needs children as an aide. She had been a member of the South Community United Methodist Church for several years where she taught Sunday school and at the present time she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cadillac. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crocheting and embroidery. Survivors include her 3 daughters: Diana (Howard) VanAntwerp of Cadillac, Elaine (Ed) Harris of Gaylord, and Carolyn (Tom) Shook of Leroy; grandchildren: Joel (Diane) VanAntwerp of Reed City, Mark VanAntwerp of Portland, OR, Darby Harris of Lansing, Tyler Shook and Alivia Shook of Leroy; great grandchildren: Sophie and Nathan VanAntwerp of Reed City; a brother, Harold (Doris) Roose of Mason; In-laws: Joe (Lucille) Peterson of Cadillac, Ruth Francisco of Lansing, Hartley Benson of McBain, Robert Ware of Mason, and Max Kelley of Lansing; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a grandson, Boyce Harris; brother, Everett Roose; sisters: Grace Watson, Ethel Kelley, Helen Matsuda, Erma Ware and Phyllis Gober; a nephew, Wayne Kelley; as well as several infant brothers and sisters and sisters and brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Cadillac with Reverend Thomas Ball officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Cadillac.
