Hector C. Grant

September 1, 1923 - March 3, 2013

Hector C. Grant of Leroy formerly of Warren passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Belle Oakes Living Center in Lake City. He was 89. He was born September 1, 1923 in Muskegon to Hector C. and Frances (Robinson) Grant. Mr. Grant was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School and later proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He then went on to Kalamazoo College and received his Masters Degree from Western Michigan University while teaching in Vicksburg. He then moved to Schoolcraft and was a teacher and principal there before moving to Warren. He was an assistant principal at Warren High School, principal at Cousino High School and Grissom Middle School until he retired. He then moved to the Rose Lake area, where he has lived for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church of Tustin and had served as an active member of many committees. He was a member of both Boy Scouts and Rotary for over 50 years. He was also a member of the VFW of Leroy and the American Legion Post #94 of Cadillac. On September 11, 1948 in Muskegon he married the former Sue Ann Appel and she survives him along with their daughter, Gail (Frank) Marberg of Macomb Township; daughter in law Debra Grant of Warren; five grandchildren; a brother, Clark (Ellen) Grant of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Hector C. Grant in 2008. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Tustin with Reverend James Friesner and Pastor Michael Holman officiating. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Burial will be at Rose Lake Township Cemetery in Osceola County.
