Jack W. Mowbray Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jack W. Mowbray of Manton passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 83. He was born November 24, 1927 in Detroit to Charles and Eula (Wood) Mowbray and they preceded him in death. He married the former Sophia J. Gorecki on October 23, 1954 in Detroit and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1998. Mr. Mowbray was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Army. Jack had been employed at Great Lakes Express in Detroit and moved up North in 1978. After moving up North he had been employed at Wickes Lumber in Cadillac for over 20 years. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, his farm and traveling. Jack loved spending time with his family and spending time at St. Theresa\'s Catholic Church in Manton where he was a member for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Lake City where he had served in many capacities. Survivors include his children: Alan â€œAlâ€ Mowbray of Manton, Cathy Mowbray of Traverse City, Victoria Jacobs of Cadillac, and Mary (Phil) Mansur of Chesterfield, Michigan; 7 grandchildren: Jason (Becca) Mowbray, Bryan Sutela, Joshua Mowbray, Alecia Mansur, Kimberly Mowbray, Philip Mansur and Justin Jacobs; three great grandchildren: Molly and Alba and TJ; and his cousins, The Wood family of Canada. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Manton with Reverend Fr. Francis J. Murphy as celebrant. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac with full military rites under the auspices of the Cadillac Area Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac where the rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM.
