Jane Ellen Young

Jane Ellen Young of Cadillac died Thursday morning, September 22, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was 88. She was born in Saginaw on August 6, 1923 to Harry & Ida (Martin) Oakes and they preceded her in death. She married James Baker Young in Saginaw and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1998. Jane had been employed at the dental offices of Doctors: Clifford, Twigg and Elwin Meyer in Cadillac. She served as Treasurer for Haring Township for 17 years. While serving there she took great pride in her job and was very proud of the township fire fighters. She had also served on the board of the Cadillac Northern District Fair for many years as well as volunteering at the Mercy Hospital and St. Ann Catholic Church gift shops. Jane loved to cross country ski and was one of the first people to Nordic ski in the 1970\'s. She was known to blaze her own trail back in the woods behind where she lived. Survivors include her children: James T. (Barbara) Young of Cadillac, Margaret Ellis of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Mary (William) Felsk of Tustin, and Janice Young (James Wurzer) of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Ricky) Mullins, Joel (Casey) Felsk and Matthew Felsk; great grandchildren: Richard Mullins and Lilly and Tate Felsk; sisters: Janice Stienke, Harriet Watt and Irene Muirhead; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by brothers: Jack and Duane Oakes. Private family memorial services will be held.
