Julia Amelia Burkett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Julia Amelia Burkett of Marion passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at her home in Marion. She was 86. She was born July 11, 1925 in Springville Township to Bikan Emil and Ella Isola (Hoseit) Ivancevic and they preceded her in death. She married Clayton Alfred Burkett on December 16, 1943 at the home of Duane and Queenie Lewis in Cadillac and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1981. Mrs. Burkett enjoyed spending time with her family and loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a concerned and caring mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and gardening and had been a member of the Nazarene Church for many years. She is survived by her seven children: Carl (Carolyn) Burkett of Traverse City, Geraldine (Roger) Ford of Reed City, Shirley (Willard) Schafer of Cadillac, Judy (Philip) Schafer of Grand Rapids, Rodney (Sharon) Burkett of Berkley, Michigan, Stanley (Ann) Burkett of Mesick and Lonnie (David Artt) Burkett of Marion; 18 grandchildren: Bonnie Arteaga, Chris Ford, Brad (Colleen) Ford, Nicole (Tim) Murray, Scott (Deb) Schafer, Lisa (Richard) Bowser, Kyle Blevins, Kaleb Burkett, Katelynn Burkett, Kelsey Burkett, Denise (Eddie) Jakubowski, Melanie (Josh) Stellwagon, Brian (Shauna) Burkett, Sara (Todd) Kornoely, Becky Burkett, Ben (Betsey) Schafer, Ann Schafer and Matt Schafer; 18 Great Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister, Vereah Maxwell of Cadillac and special neighbor Phyllis Crowe of Marion. In addition to her husband, Clayton Alfred, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two grandsons, Carl Leroy Burkett, Jr. and Charles Burkett; their mother, daughter-in-law, Dahlia Burkett; two brothers, Albert and Clarence Ivancevic and several in- laws. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac with Reverend Frank LaLone officiating. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery, Wexford County, Michigan.
