June (Turek) McKay

June 24, 1923 - August 3, 2014

June McKay passed away peacefully on August 3, 2014 at the age of 91. She was born June 24, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan to Vera (Dean) and Raymond Turek, Sr. After graduating from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, June attended Michigan State University where she studied art. She married Orville McKay. June led a fascinating life as a loving mother, grandmother, and artist. She had a zest for life and her passion was obvious in everything she did. June was the City of Cadillac's own iconic meter maid for over twenty years. June found local notoriety when photographed in her meter maid uniform with the rock group KISS as part of Cadillac's 1975 homecoming festivities. She enjoyed painting still lifes in oils and acrylics, gardening, crocheting, knitting and keeping a comfortable home. She was a Christian woman who worshiped at the Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Cadillac. She is survived by her children: Scott McKay of Millington, Michigan, Ann (Cleo) Dilbeck of Red Rock, Oklahoma, Martha (Paul) Rees of Cadillac and John (Laurie) McKay of Cadillac; son-in-law, Matthew Mertz; grandchildren: Brian (Tonya) McKay, Jennifer McKay, Gerry (Theresa) Sutterfield, Curtis (Shannon) Sutterfield, Sara (John) Mertz-Hayes, Brett (Joy) McKay, Jason (Kristan)Lawson, Mindy (RJ) Shotton, Katie Lawson, Alex Rees, Erin Rees, David McKay, Abbe Tykwinski, and Chad McKay; and great-grandchildren: Jared McKay, Zachary McKay, Brianna Sutterfield, Tabitha Sutterfield, Alex Sutterfield, McKinley Sutterfield, Story Sutterfield, Josephine Hayes, Kaelah McKay, Abby Lawson, Riley Lawson, Coshayta Shotton, Trey Shotton, Presley Shotton, Nathan Lawson, Galen Daykin, Jr., Kaeleigh Rees- Ringstrom and Annabelle Begley. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Dean Turek, Raymond Turek and Marshall Turek; a sister, Martha and a daughter, Nancy Mertz. Memorial services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Cadillac with Reverend Jeff Sonntag officiating.
