Karen Jean Lempe

Karen Jean Lempe of Cadillac passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at her home. She was 68. She was born April 30, 1944 in Detroit to George and Merle (Woods) Lempe and they preceded her in death. Karen taught for Warren Consolidated Schools for 30 years until retiring in 1996 when she moved to Cadillac. While teaching Karen was very involved in the Michigan Education Association, once retired she became involved in the MEA Retired. She loved her pets and enjoyed collecting pig figurines. Her love of animals led her involvement with the Wonderland Humane Society where she became the liaison for Project Christmas from the Humane Society. Karen was active with the Cherry Grove Fire Auxiliary and was Co-President of Friends of the Mitchell State Park. She enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach and loved to camp and travel. Her family was very important to her, especially her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her good friend, Ruth Ann Goodyear of Cadillac; a brother, Barry (Karen M.) Lempe of Cadillac; a niece, Lauren Lempe of Chicago and a nephew, Campbell Lempe of Austin, Texas. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 16, 2012 at the United Methodist Church of Cadillac with Parish Assistant Judy Coffey officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wonderland Humane Society or Friends of Mitchell State Park.
