Kenneth N. John

Kenneth N. John of Cadillac died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Curry House in Cadillac. He was 77. Mr. John was born in Cadillac January 10, 1934 to Kenneth and Norma (Laney) John. He graduated from Cadillac High School in 1952. He married Joann M. Smrekar on July 17, 1954 at Saint Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac and she preceded him in death on September 14, 2007. He was a member of Saint Ann Catholic church. Prior to his retirement he was employed by CMI. He enjoyed Bowling, gardening and watching his grandchildren participating in sporting events. He is survived by children: Craig John, Kathy Foster and Connie (Rande) Harris all of Cadillac; grandchildren: Jami (Matt) Eldean, Kara John, Ian Foster, Josh Harris, Garrett Garber and Jorden Garber; great grandson Kellan Eldean; in-laws: Gerrie Uptegraph of Cadillac, Mary Ann (Merle) Stilwell of Cadillac, Marion Smrekar of Cadillac, William (Pat) Smrekar of Cadillac, Janet Matthews of Vicksburg, Dolores (Bob) Meyer of Cadillac, Patricia (Ken) Lambert of Beaverton, Oregon, Margaret Weaver of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Joanne, he was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: James L. and Grace Smrekar, William and Clarice Brehm, Francis “Dutch†Smrekar, Greg Matthews, Terry Weaver and Ken Uptegraph. The Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac with Father Francis Murphy as celebrant. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Peterson Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Jim Siler. Burial will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cadillac. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Saint Ann Catholic Church or Mercy Hospice.
