Kenneth E. Van Hulst

February 7, 1933 - July 8, 2012

Kenneth E. Van Hulst passed away July 8, 2012 at his home in Cadillac. He was 79. He was born February 7, 1933 in Lansing to Richard O. and Irene E. (Parson) VanHulst. Mr. Van Hulst had worked at Michigan Bell as a telephone technician for over 30 years until retiring in 1982. During his time at Michigan Bell he was also a first aid instructor and a union steward. From 1982-1992 he owned and operated the Birchwood Resort in Cadillac. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Arizona and active Long Ridge Park Home Owners Association. Mr. Van Hulst was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. He was strong supporter of the troops and liked to prepare and mail care packages overseas to deployed soldiers. He was an avid Red Wings fan and a member of St. Mary\'s Episcopal Church since 1959. His family and friends grew to rely on him during their time of need to help fix any problem they may have had. On December 31, 1956 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan he married the former Bonnie A. Davis and she survives him along with their five children: Barbaranne (Leonard) Kuchinski of Cadillac, Meribeth (Chad) Mattson of Marion, Kenneth (Marcy) VanHulst, Kathryn Sue VanHulst and Kathleen (Craig) McVean all of Cadillac; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and two sisters, Karen Thomas of AZ and Lori Jo (Edward) DeFrain of Gratiot, MI. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a sister, Virginia Pethers. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. Mary\'s Episcopal Church in Cadillac with Reverend David Brower officiating.
