Kent L. McMartin

March 30, 1944 - June 10, 2011

Kent L. McMartin of Cadillac died Friday afternoon, June 10, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. He was 67. He was born on March 30, 1944 in Escanaba, Michigan to Kenneth M. & Mercedes C. (LaMarche) McMartin. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1962 and went on to Northern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor\'s Degree. That same year he moved to Cadillac and began his career as a high school Teacher for Cadillac Area Public Schools teaching, Psychology, Sociology, Government and Driver\'s Education retiring in 2003. Kent was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac and served in various ways there. He enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, golf, wood working, traveling, going to the Casino and sports of all kinds in particular Detroit teams. On June 25, 1966 in Gladstone, Michigan he married the former Linda Jean Fredrickson and she survives him along with their children: Jeff (Tracy) McMartin of Spring Lake, Kraig (Nicole) McMartin of Cadillac, Jason (Larisa) McMartin of Grant, Dennis McMartin of Manton, and Heather (Nathan) Pancake of Nashotah, WI; grandchildren: Kase, Kasidy, Breanne, Aidan, Journey, Rachel, Hannah, and Sarah; a sister, Marlene Day of Boise, ID; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death his parents and a brother, Dwight McMartin. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac with Reverend Scott Torkko officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac.
